This article is about Frantic and Moreonthedoor Presents: Hard Dance Showcase @ Hidden in London (UK), Fri 15 Aug

Double G Trouble at HDS!

Double G has been a regular raver at Raindance parties since the mid ‘90s and is showing no signs of stopping! He’s also played at all of their events this year, and has now landed himself his first gig at Frantic’s Hard Dance Showcase. I found out more about the mysterious man known only as Double G…

Well first of all I hear it’s been your birthday recently, so happy birthday! How old were you and how did you celebrate?

I am older than I look ;-) I celebrated with a small group of close family and friends on my birthday, but the celebrations will be carrying on all the way up to the main event @ HDS.

The theme of HDS is birthdays, it seems to be a popular time of year for them! What has been your best ever birthday present?

The best ever birthday present was being introduced to my best friend Mr Leroy Brown. We have been inseparable for the past 6 years.
Ed: Mr Leroy Brown is a gorgeous chocolate coloured dog!

Now onto the more serious stuff…DJing! What first made you want to get your hands on a pair of decks??

I started raving when I was 14. And at that age you either wanted to be a DJ or an MC. And as it’s the tunes that make people dance, that's what I wanted to do.

What sort of music can we expect to hear from you at HDS?

I have been booked to play bouncy feel-good hard house. I like to play out-of-box so even I don't know what tunes are gonna be played until I am there on the night.

You play at Raindance a lot, how did your gigs there come about?

I got in touch with an old raving friend, who I hadn’t seen for several years. She used to tell me that I was good enough to play out, but I never seem to got around to doing anything about it. So at the end of last year she talked me into playing at Raindance, in the Mad Hatters Hard House Party arch.

Do you produce?

I haven’t done, but who knows what the future holds, all I am saying is watch this space ;-)

What are you planning for the rest of the year, DJ wise?

Obviously I will be playing at HDS on 15 August, as well as several TBC dates. Apart from that, I have been recently made a resident DJ for the Mad Hatters arena @ Raindance, so will be playing at all their events.

Do you have a job alongside DJing? What is it?

I run a small firm.

Who do you admire in clubland?

The promoters that have worked hard to get where their events have gotten today. Anyone who has the abilty to put on a top party successfully, Richard (Raindance) and Chloe (Frantic) are 2 perfect examples of this. I also admire DJs that know how to work the crowd.

I would like to thank Agent Bunnykins for pushing me the way she does, without whom I wouldn’t be Raindance resident or playing at HDS.

What do you think is more important in DJing – hard work or raw talent?

I believe it should be a balance of the 2. But overall it should be enjoyable, what’s the point in doing something if you don’t actually like what you are doing.

How did you get into hard house; where were your first nights out and who introduced you to the scene?

I have always enjoyed a broad spectrum of music. First rave I ever went to was Dreamscape 21, first house night I ever went to was Strawberry Sundae. I have been listening to music and going to events since I was 14, so I sort of introduced myself to the scene, each time I went out.

How do you think the London scene compares to the rest of the country?

Raindance always draws a really friendly crowd anyway, but London is just generally a slightly happier place to be, I find there is more of a party vibe in London.

How important would you say nights like HDS are, that bring fresh new talent through into the scene?

Without events like HDS, it would be a lot harder for the new talent to break though as there are so many top notch DJs out there.

Fun stuff:
Which Womble would you be?

If I turned in to a womble, my dog would f***ing eat me!!!!

What would you rather live without, sex or music?

Sex. Cause you can always sit at home and bash one out to your favourite tune.

Friday nights or Sunday mornings?

Friday night wins over a Sunday morning any day of the week ;-)

What’s your real name?

Gordon.

Where did Double G come from?

That’s secret. Only a few people know, who were around at the time it was suggested.

Thank you for your time Mr G! I hope everyone makes the time to check you out & show you a little birthday loving at HDS on Friday 15th August. Double G is playing in the Blue Room – don’t miss it!

Catch Double G (and maybe Mr Leroy Brown, who knows!) at Frantic & MoreOnTheDoor Present: HDS next Friday 15th August at Hidden in Vauxhall.
